We journeyed to North Carolina at the end of August for a week of fun with Papa Papa. I stayed sane during the 12 hours of driving each way with the help of the DVD player and the knowledge I would not be hearing the standard week before school start mantra of "I'm bored."
We split our drive there into two days. The first day was long and mostly highway but the second day was shorter and we took the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here's one of our stops along the way.

We got to do some fun things like hiking to a waterfall, go to Tweetsie Railroad and going to Linville Caverns. The caverns we went to had trout living in some of the streams in them and we even got to see a bat fly by.
I made an unsuccessful try at taking a picture of everyone.

On our way home we stopped at the Haunted Mansion and Dinosaur Park as a break and a treat. The boys insisted that they could handle the scary tour (not!) and we took the toned-down one which I declared the "scary kid's tour. " Outside they had cut outs for pictures and what little boy could pass up a picture in a toilet.
