Master Artist

Kurt painted his interpretation of the Mona Lisa as part of his art class. He spent a couple of weeks working on this. Here it is along with a photograph his teacher took as he painted intently.

A Scary Story

Kurt's class had to write a scary story as a writing assignment in October. Their teacher typed each story into the computer and the kids made illustrations. Following is Kurt's finished story.

My Cool Summer

This is a project Kurt did at the beginning of the school year. It was up for back-to-school night and came home recently. The kids picked a pose that would be incorporated into the picture that went with their essay. I got a kick out of it and wanted to share it.

Since it is a little hard to read the essay. Here it is:

My Cool Summer

My trip to Cape Cod was really cool. I loved it. I got to see my cousins, aunt, uncle and grandparents.

On our last day in North Carolina we found a candy store. It sold 500 different kinds of candy. I got to pick 6 kinds.

This summer I got a computer game called Dragon Fable. You can make your own guy.

I had a cool summer.

More Art by Kurt

Kurt has continued to enjoy his art class and we signed him up for another session of six classes. The students can choose a master artist to inspire them and Kurt is currently working on his version of the Mona Lisa. Here are a few of his recent completed works.

"The Sad Bunny"

"The Magical Forest"

"Creatures"

Build, build, build

Kurt and Erich are always building something these days. Here's a couple of pics of some recent creations. Kurt built an alien vehicle for a Lego Mars Mission contest. Erich built a stadium out of blocks.

Before and After

Here's the fireplace before and after being tiled. I still have to patch the wall above the mantle and we need to install trim around the tile on the floor but it is what I envisioned.

The Cruellest Month

T.S. Eliot said April was the cruellest month but obviously did not have school-aged children in New Jersey. November consists of only 11 full days and 6 half days of school. So much for any sense of school year routine that got established in September and October. Today is the second full day off this week. Painting and Play Doh seem to be keeping the bickering to a minimum. Although, the day did start off with some kind of Lego-based disagreement.

Boo!

Halloween fun was had by both Kurt and Erich. Kurt woke up at 6:00 am he was so excited. Erich slept later but managed to ramp up his enthusiasm for the day in no time.

Erich's class had a parade around the auditorium and put on a show at school. Erich did a great job singing all the songs he has practiced (almost constantly) for the last month. The picture of his class is dark with lots of red eyes; I'll have to try to fix it up another day. BTW, Erich was a prehistoric man (although by the end of the day he decided it was okay to be a caveman since it was easier to say.)

Kurt came home for lunch and got in his costume and returned to his school for a parade and party. Kurt definitely got into his character of an old man. If Oscars were issued for a Halloween performance, he would surely be in the running. He did have to break character and fold up his walker and carry it for the parade since it would have taken an hour to do the parade around the playground at his speed.

Erich and I picked up Kurt at school at 2:00pm and along with some friends headed off to trick or treat. Erich (and I) were tired out by 3:30pm. Luckily, we had run into Kurt's friend Zack A. and Kurt was able to continue on with Zack for another hour or so. Erich handed out candy until Kurt got back and then Kurt took over until we turned out the light at 7:00pm.

I don't think I really want to know how much candy was ingested but both Kurt and Erich ate their dinner. Erich, in fact, had a second and third helping of edamame so I figured between that and the salmon some of the sugar was counteracted.

Here's a final picture of the prehistoric man and the old man hamming it up.
